After the arrest of his mother`s father was arrested (as the wife of an enemy of the people), and committed suicide in prison in Khanty-Mansiysk. Anton was also arrested as "a son of an enemy" in 1940. Was in Turkmenistan camps, then near Saratov. After the war, he was released, but in 1948 he was arrested for anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda; sent to one of the Vorkuta camps. In 1956, rehabilitated, released, he returned to Moscow. In 1967, together with 43 old Bolsheviks who survived the Stalinist purges, appeals to the authorities to protest against attempts to rehabilitate Stalin. In 1983 "Chronicle Yress", published in the United States, published his historical study of Stalin, "Portrait of a tyrant", containing, in particular, important information about the murder of SM Kirov. Nearly blind, he persecuted the KGB. In November 1984, he was arrested again, charged with anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda, expelled from Moscow. In 1986 he returned to Moscow.

AV Antonov - the author of numerous publications about Stalin: "Portrait of a Tyrant" (New York, 1980), "The Theatre of Josef Stalin" (Wiley, 1989), "Stalin unmasked" (Wiley, 1990). A number of works he devoted Ordzhonikidze and other associates of Stalin. The most significant of them - "Beria" (Wiley, 1999). The sources are widely used private archival materials, memoirs of old Bolsheviks and Mensheviks.

In the preface to the book "Stalin unmasked" AV Antonov, in particular, wrote: "On Stalin created a lot of books. However, interest in him and his deeds unabated. This is understandable: people want to look at the bottom of the terrible abyss, where they tried to push. Stalin himself, his political portrait - an enduring topic. For, without knowing it, not knowing the essence of Stalinism, it is difficult to imagine the tragedy of the Soviet people. And it`s a shame ...

Stalinism - a whole era. The era of the infamous, bloody atrocities. Stalinism - political banditry, addressed in public policy. In terms of ethics is a phenomenon that is on the other side of humanity ... With the name of Stalin, the whole system is connected, which started a company to a standstill ... Stalinism, with its aggressive genocide and corruption of the personality, with its theory and practice of violence, in its consequences It is devastating world wars. Reaching peaks of social pathology, Stalinism gave the dangerous metastases in all parts of the world ...

In Stalin`s image, I tried to show the criminal as he was, to reveal the criminal nature. Facts are convinced that it is as follows. For all his "versatility" and "contradictory". Stalin`s crimes against the Party and the people and against peace and humanity should be qualified on the highest level - both public and even international. In keeping with its high social position (motivates people like Churchill, to treat it with reverence) ... Even now not translated ideologues, for which Stalin was the great leader of Hitler`s architect and winner of socialism ... But no one I did so much to discredit communism as he was. Stalin struck the world communist movement accurately calculated crushing blow ...

Our age is notorious grand robbery, assassination of President ... But all of these crimes do not go to any comparison with Stalin`s crimes. He managed in a historically short period of time away from the land of the peasants, the workers - the plants, the intelligentsia - the right to independent creativity, deprived narodyvsyakih freedoms, even the freedom of movement. This is robbery of the century.

... Maybe the book is overloaded with dark scenes. Maybe the author was unable to hold back feelings of the person who survived the horrors of terror (such accusations I have heard more than once). But this book is not fiction. I strove for authenticity not only the debt of the historian ... I had the opportunity to meet with many participants of the events of past years, and with the victims of terror. Over two decades, I have studied literature, domestic and foreign, periodicals, and documents available to me ...

To write the truth about Stalin - a debt to all those who died by his hand. To those who lived through the night. To those who come after us ... The past should be studied and publicly condemn ... We are trying to overlook Stalinist legacy. But it belongs not only to history. It lives in the actions, habits, thoughts. Ignorance and silence - also from the Stalinist legacy. Unhealed wound heal in silence. Exposing Stalin - an act of justice, and justice is something that is decided now, that makes our days brighter, clears the mind and heart "(Antonov A. Stalin unmasked M., 1990, pp 5-7.).
