Background

Yury Andreyev was born March 3, 1937 in Leningrad. His father was a senior research fellow at the Institute of DC, his mother - an engineer, a specialist in welding. Versatile interests of parents contributed to the son hobby history, music and art, formed a love for the humanities.

As a child, Yury and his mother survived the blockade. They were evacuated by August 1942 and returned to Leningrad in 1944.

In 1954 JV with a gold medal graduated from high school and entered the historical faculty of Leningrad State University. Since then, the fate of Yury Viktorovich was closely associated with the University. Here he defended his candidate`s and doctoral thesis, became an assistant professor and professor, one of the leading specialists in the field of early Greek history and experienced teacher. In the 80 years of Yu became a member of a group of authors, who published a three-volume "History of the Ancient World." This book, a number of editions, and is considered one of the best local guides at ancient history.
