Vlado Buckovski graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Skopje in 1986, followed by master`s degree in 1992. In 1998 he defended his thesis on "The Roman and modern lien".
From 1987 to 1988 Buckovski served as an expert in the parliament of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia. Between 1988 and 2002, he was a teacher and an assistant at the Faculty of Law in Skopje. In 1998 he became an assistant professor of Roman law, and in 2003 - a professor in the same department.
From 1998 to 2000, Vlado Buckovski was a member of the State Election Commission, and then from 2000 to 2001 headed the Skopje Council.
In 2001, a short time was the minister of defense for the first time. After the victory of SDSM and its coalition partners in the parliamentary elections in 2002, Buckovski again became Minister of Defense. A post he held until December 2004.
September 15, 2003 became the chairman of the Legal Council of the Government. November 26, 2004 he was elected leader of the SDSM and received a mandate to form a new government. In the parliamentary elections in 2006, his party was defeated and the government resigned.
December 9, 2008 Buckovski was found guilty of illegal acquisition of spare parts for T-55 tanks during the armed conflict in 2001. The court sentenced him to three and a half years in prison. The sentence reads: "taking up the post of Minister of Defense of Macedonia in 2001, Buckovski decided on unjustified acquisition of a large number of spare parts for T-55 tanks, resulting in the Macedonian budget has suffered serious damage totaling $ 2.5 million."
At the same time sentenced to prison several former senior Ministry of Defence.
