In late 2000, the band toured the US and Europe ; at the beginning of 2001-first started working on their new album. In the spring, however, Leo and Yasuda broke the contract with the `Southern Records` and - after a lengthy upheavals - have found a new home in the ` Matador Records` group. Unfortunately, at that time, it was already obviousthat long to hold the group will not help anything - a change of record company in general not considered as a serious step.
`The Lapse` - American indie band formed at the end of 1997. The first time worked under the logo `Gern Blandsten`, then moved under the wing to the ` Southern Records`.Group consisted of Chris Leo (Chris Leo), a former member of emocore band `Native Nod` brother Ted Leo (Ted Leo), and at that time was still his friend Toko Yasuda (Toko Yasuda), who played in ` Enon` and ` Blonde Redhead`. The command `The Lapse` Chris and Toko created shortly after the break with a group of ` The Van Pelt`. Leo in the group playing the guitar ,Yasuda - bass ; vocals are shared between them.
Even before the creation of `The Lapse` Toko and Chris have worked in a number of indie teams ; in fact, in their work clearly felt the impact of all of their previous projects. Played by Leo and Yasuda generally quite noisy, aggressive, built on riffs post-rock ;texts they tried to directly influence the most remote areas of the brain listeners. `The Lapse` consisted of three members - together with Toko and Chris worked more and drummer ; however, none of the drummer has not been able to stay in the group at least any serious time. Established back in previous bands reputation helped Leo and Yasuda pretty quickly come to success in the music world of the East Coast ; they quickly began to act with real stars, like `Guided By Voices` and ` Blonde Redhead`. His first full-length disc the band released in 1998 ;it was called `Betrayal` and accepted was quite warm. After the release of the disc `The Lapse` went on tour around the country. Their texts - in which the usual singing actively interspersed recitatives - narrated about everything - from international politics to tales of sexual adventures young Leo. The success of `The Lapse` obliged ,first, a complex chemistry, is clearly observed between Toco and Chris.
In 1999, the band went to the then popular in the indie record label medium group `Southern Records`; after a series of singles released second album, `Heaven Ain`t Happenin``.Older his tricks musicians have left - dominated their music all the same sharp guitars ; At the same time, it was felt in the album and a certain hint of experimentation - so Yasuda and Leo tried to play with electronic samples.
Unfortunately, the musicians started having problems in their personal lives - their attitude left much to be desired.Moreover, Toko any visa problems ; for a while she even had to leave the band. For a while, Yasuda acted along with former frontman `Brainiac` Shmersalom John (John Schmersal) in ` Enon` group. Do not spend time in vain and Leo : bass under his leadership, he managed to play Gary Keating (Gary Keating), and drums kakoe-While working a former member of `Shudder to Think` and ` Jawbox` Adam Wade (Adam Wade).
