Biography

"Temptations" was one of the most popular vocal groups signed to the label "Motown" in the 60s. The ensemble was formed in 1961 in Detroit by the merger of the two other groups. Baritone Otis Williams and Elbridge Bryant and bass Melvin Franklin sang about it "Distants", and tenor Eddie Kenriks and Paul Williams were considered as part of "Primes".

Initially, freshly quintet called "Elgins", but soon the sign was changed to "Temptations".The group signed a contract with "Miracle" (unit "Motown") and began churning out single for a single. However, in the series, only one sorokapyatok ("Dream come true") was a commercial success. In 1963, El quarreled with Paul and left the team, and the following year appeared in the collective tenor David Ruffin. The updated composition took to produce Smokey Robinson. Alliance was successful, and the first single, "The way you do the things you do", hit the Top Ten. In 1965, the song "My girl" topped the pop and rhythm-and - blues charts, and several songs "Temptations" were in the top 20.

TemptationsV 1966-m group issued another polupopsovy hit "Get ready", and then moved to a serious soul. Now, instead of the Robinson affair tucked Norman Whitfield and Brian

Holland, a leading party battered Kendricks and Ruffin. Since 1967 Whitfield monopolized all power and ensemble compositions have become more coarse. The following year, the team kicked Ruffin, and was replaced by Dennis Edwards, whose " nepriglazhenny " vocals just came to psychedelic soul, which are mired in "Temptations". By the end of the 60`s considerably changed and texts the group, becoming more social and political.

In 1971, Kendricks began a solo career ,and soon after he resigned and Paul Williams. Overwhelmed by personal demons and affected by alcoholism Paul took his own life 17 August 1973. Meanwhile, the "Temptations" recruited tenors Damon Harris and Richard Street and again began churning out hit after hit.

TemptationsV 1976-m after leaving Harris (he was replaced by Glenn Leonard) , the band released the last album "Motown" - "The Temptations Do

The Temptations ". Then, Edwards gave way to Luis Pryce, and by subscribing to the " Atlantic ", the team tried her hand at a disco direction. After releasing a couple of plates in this style team (with Edwards returned) returned under the "Motown" roof. In 1982 she released the album "Reunion", a record which was attended by Ruffin and Kendricks. However, the problems with the label, and disagreements within the band made their re- stay in a short-lived group.

Turnover continued ,and by 1988 as part of " the Temptations " of the " old men" was only Otis Williams. June 1, 1991 from an overdose of heroin Ruffin died on October 5, 1992, from lung cancer died Kendricks, and February 23, 1995 the first Franklin passed away. Meanwhile, the team continued to exist, produced disks and led an active concert career ,despite the fact that now his work fell under the category of "oldies".
