Otto Von Habsburg
Date of Birth: 11/20/1912
Place of birth: Reichenau an der Rax
Otto von Habsburg (Otto von Habsburg, the full name - Otto Habsburg-Lothringen) was born in November 1912 in Reichenau an der Rax, Austria (Reichenau an der Rax, Austria), in the royal family. He was the eldest of three sons of the last king of Austria (Austria) - Charles I (Charles I) and his wife, the country`s last empress, Zita of Bourbon-Parma (Zita di Borbone-Parma).
At baptism, which is held on 25 November 1912, the boy was given the name of Franz Joseph Otto Robert Maria Anton Karl Max Heinrich Sixtus Xavier Felix Renatus Ludwig Gaetan Pius Ignatius. The ceremony was attended by almost all members of the royal family and wealthy nobleman, who knew that soon it is in the hands of the baby to focus the power of the country and nearby neighbors.
Unfortunately, this was not to be. In 1916, Otto became a prince when his father walked away from power because of his advanced age, but the First World War brought about changes - Hungary (Hungary) and Austria (Austria) became independent and the monarchy in Europe (Europe) come to an end .
Old King take it could not, and for the throne, Otto was no longer available, so it was decided to choose a regent. They became Miklos Horthy (Horthy Mikl & # 243; s), which held power in the country until 1944. Perhaps it is one of the most provocative of the rulers of Hungary for the time of its existence: subject to the ideas of Calvinism, he supported the first years of Hitler (Adolf Hitler), but the ideas of the Nazis, he flatly denied. When the war broke out, Horthy issued a sharp criticism of Hitler`s actions, particularly in the genocide of the Jews, and interference in the internal affairs of the countries of Europe.
In 1922 his father, the last emperor of Austria, died, leaving a 9-year-old son at the crossroads of destiny. Fortunately, the boy found himself a role model - said Miklos Horthy became the founder of the ideas that Otti subsequently adhered throughout his life.
In 1935 he graduated from the University Catholic University of Leuven, where he studied social sciences and politics. During training, Otto never tried to be like everything: he has repeatedly mentioned that could now run the country if the monarchy is not destroyed from the outside. More often, he regrets to the people of the country, which, in his opinion, just could not do anything to prevent the inevitable, and only waited for that one day everything will return to their seats.
At the beginning of World War II, Otto already had their own negative opinion on the actions of Hitler and the entire National Socialist Party. However, not too warm feelings harbored Hitler himself to the son of the last king. After Germany lost the war, it turned out that he was even a plan for Otto von Habsburg. It was originally planned seamlessly drag troops to the border, and then non-stop to go around the country, killing all the members of the royal family. Fortunately, thanks to the work of US intelligence Otto had been warned about this in advance and with the family moved to Washington, DC (Washington, DC).
After the war, he returned to Europe, where he began to take an active part in the political life of the region, he tried his best to bring together the country weakened by war.
In 1961, Prince gave up claims to the throne - it was an important step in the life of Otto since, he took off his duty to keep the age-old family tradition and has balanced himself with the rest of the population`s rights.
Throughout the rest of his life, Otto tried to change the world: so, for example, he was one of the organizers of the European Picnic - a demonstration of the world on the Austrian-Hungarian border, during which people could, without fear of prosecution, to escape to the West.
In 2010, the year his wife - Princess Regina (Princess Regina of Saxe-Meiningen) - died.
After her death, he rarely appeared in public, and Otto von Habsburg died on the night of July 4 at his country house in the 99 th year of life. According to his secretary, politician, and the eldest son of the last king of Austria died in his sleep.
According to family tradition, Otto body was buried in the family crypt in Vienna (Vienna), and the heart - in Hungary (Hungary). After the death of Otto was a younger brother who, by the way, is the last descendant of King Charles, 7 children, 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
