Leo Balzan was born in Kishinev in the family of a prominent Moldovan poet Joseph Balzan. After the Kishinev Polytechnic Institute, worked as an engineer, then was engaged in journalistic activities, satires published in the periodical press of Moldova. Prior to 1993, together with Boris Sandler was the editor of Kishinev a bilingual (Russian-Yiddish) newspaper "Our voice" until 2005 was chief editor of the Israeli Russian-language newspaper "Vesti".
Author collections of humorous prose "Annals of labor collectives" (Chisinau, 1985), "Flowers of revenge" (Chisinau, 1990), the book "The Jewish parables and anecdotes" and "cookbook", compiler (with Ephraim Bauch) collection of documents of the conference dedicated to the centennial Kishinev pogrom of 1903 "by Ms. Hail zn" (published by "Ivrus", Tel Aviv, 2003); adaptiroval for the Russian-speaking reader transliterated Dictionary cvoego great-uncle Chaim Balzan - "New Russian-Hebrew dictionary for all" ( "Ivrus", Tel Aviv, 2000).
In 1993, Israel established ivozglavil private publishing house "Ivrus", specializing in the publication of dictionaries, reference books, maps and guidebooks in Russian. Compiled by a number of books published by this publishing house ( "Favorites" Felix Krivine, 1999; "Jews in historical legends and anecdotes" Yuri Borev, 1998, and others). He lives in Rehovot.
