Jean-Pierre Marielle was born in Dijon, the son of his father - an industrialist, and his mother - dressmaker. His first acting experience was held while studying in high school. There he played with his friends in the plays of Anton Chekhov. He originally wanted to study literature, but one of his teachers insisted that he became an actor and enrolled in "CNSAD" (fr. Conservatoire national superieur d `art dramatique). The National Conservatory, he met with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Rochefort. After a few performances at the Comedie Francaise, he goes to the Company Grenier-Yusseno (fr. La compagnie Grenier-Hussenot).
He began playing small roles in film since 1957 "Big Bluff", "Everyone wants to kill me." Not satisfied with his cinematic experience, he returned to the stage and cabaret playing near Guy Bedo (fr. Guy Bedos) - French comedian, writer and singer.

Played in the movie "Let the feast begin," "impeccable reputation", he confirmed his reputation as a great actor. In the movie "Big Tour", he starred with Jean Rochefort and Philippe Noiret.
Jean Marel since October 2003, is married to French actress Agathe Natanson (fr. Agathe Natanson), he has a son from a previous marriage.
