Cassel, whose real name was Kroshon, born 27 October 1932 in Paris in a family physician and an opera singer. As an actor, he made his debut in the comedy serial movie in 1956, "Happy Road". In 1958, Cassel played with great success in the film adaptation of the works of Voltaire`s "Candide". Later, he repeatedly acted in comedies of French director Philippe de Broca.
