The study of leadership from the position theory

James MacGregor Burns was born on August 3, 1918-th. He earned a bachelor`s degree from Williams College and his Ph.D. (Political Science) from Harvard University (Harvard). He was also a student at the London School of Economics (London School of Economics). Burns served in the army, as one of the participants of Pacific War. He was awarded the Bronze Star and received four battle honors. James, in fact, not only fought on battlefields, but also played the role of the historian. In keeping with its core research, leadership studies, he noticed that all the talk was about the distinctive features and qualities of the officers, then the soldiers did not put in context.

Burns - a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS) and former president of the American Political Science Association (APSA) and the International Society of Political Psychology (ISPP). James adheres to a hierarchy of values. He puts community values ??to the top of their hierarchical order. In fact, Burns could be called a signatory to the Declaration of Independence, according to which the person has the inalienable right to `freedom, life and the pursuit of schastyu`.

Among the main areas of research leadership Burns studied not only the personal qualities and actions of great men of this world, but switched to the voters and their leaders working towards mutual benefit. The most famous James received for his contributions to theoretical analysis of the problems of leadership, particularly in areas such as visionary leadership and transformational and transactional leadership. In fact, he introduced the concept of `transactional rukovodstvo` in 1978.

Burns Research on transformational leadership theories focused on how leaders use power. Transformational theory refers to the moral aspect of the development of social values ??and individual goals. The theory involves one of the most fundamental questions: what is the ultimate purpose of the guide, and why you need to become a leader? Transformational leadership offers a variety of mechanisms to enhance motivation and morale to the leader was seen as a role model. Transformational leadership style also suggests promoting creative and innovative ideas. The downside is that a serious dependence on the motivation affects the inability to work in an emergency situation.

James was in favor of the abolition of the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution. He believes that an effective president must be allowed to take up his post three or more terms. As an example, Burns leads FDR (Franklin Roosevelt), the first US president in history who was re-elected for a third and then a fourth term. Burns in the 1940s was an assistant to Roosevelt in the White House and thoroughly studied political kitchen, which, of course, helped him in his work on exciting intrigue of the book `Roosevelt: The Soldier of Freedom`.
