Coming from an old noble family. Last Balakirev occurs on one of versions, from the Tatar word "ball Cyrus" (a stubborn child). Since the XVI century, Balakirev lived in the Ryazan principality, and in the XVII century, one of Balakirev would "have stolnik hook", served in the inner chambers under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Ivan Balakirev came from Kostroma branch of the Balakirev.
Ivan was presented to Peter I in 1715 in St. Petersburg. Balakirev was defined in Preobrazhensky regiment. He was told to study engineering. In 1719, he was taken to "home poslug" palace. He was appointed to the driving Ekaterina Alekseevna.
