Isaiah Afwerki was born February 2, 1946 in Asmara, today`s capital and largest city of Eritrea. In 1993 he was elected president of his country.
Isaiah began his political career in 1967. He became a member of the Eritrean Liberation Front. During the 4 years he studied military affairs, then he took over as commander of the front.
In the late 80-ies of the country`s collapse and disorder reigned. Eritreans tried to take control of the government in their own hands. And in 1991, they managed to capture Addis Ababa. At that time, rebel leader Meles Zenawi was the 2nd President of Ethiopia. Thanks to him, and Isaiah AfevorkuEritreya gained independence and was recognized as a full-fledged state.
In 1993 he was elected President Afwerki of Eritrea. In its immediate surroundings, he put only proven and reliable people who have taken more than one battle with him. The result was that the country began to control the veterans independence.
In 1998, Eritrea and Ethiopia started a new controversy. Neighbors "not shared" contiguous territory. In the course of military actions killing many people on both sides. War has led to a deterioration of the economic situation in the country and the fall of the authority Afwerki.
In 2000, Eritrea has officially recognized its defeat. The country peacekeeping forces were introduced.

One of the priorities Afwerki is friendship with the "Union of Islamic Courts" - the Muslim insurgency in Somalia. Eritrea provides members of the movement for political asylum. Just Afwerki has repeatedly become their sponsor, supplying weapons to the country, and money.
Despite the rigidity of the laws and regulations, formally Isaiah Afwerki is a member of the Popular Front Party for Democracy and Justice. At the moment, he tries not to reject the democratic views, but does so very carefully and thoughtfully, as it believes that there should be a single political pole.
