He graduated from the historical-philological faculty of Kiev University (1913), but the diploma thesis written at the same time on the philological and philosophical faculty - about Sappho`s poetry and philosophy of Rickert. More student began translating Greek poets. He published coll. poem "The Garden of Souls" (Kiev, in 1916, under the pseudonym Jacob Silva). After university he worked as the director of a grammar school in Moscow. He collaborated with the Commissariat. In 1919-1920 Lunacharsky was sent to the Crimea to ensure the protection of cultural monuments. Upon returning lectured on ancient culture in various universities of the capital, including - at the invitation of Bryusov he created in the Higher literary and art institute in the Second Moscow State University. In the late 1920s, he listened to the lectures of the famous Berlin philologist antichnika Wilamowitz-Mellendorfa.
