Who invented the `Superkley`?
Harry Coover (Harry Coover, full name - Harry Wesley Coover, Jr.) was born in 1917 in Newark, Delaware, USA (Newark, Delaware, USA). Bachelor`s Degree Coover got to college Hobart College, and later became a Master and received a degree in the famous Cornell University (Cornell University).
He began working as a chemist in the company `Eastman Kodak` in 1944, and was appointed Vice President, remaining in that position until 1984 th 1973.
Today the name of Harry Coover is known worldwide for his important invention of life - cyanoacrylate, which later became known worldwide as `Superkley`. Invented it shifted Coover and his team during the Second World War, in the course of experiments in search of transparent plastic for optical sights, but a new substance was then rejected because of his excessive tackiness.
Almost a decade later, in 1951, during the development of heat-resistant coatings for aircraft cabins fighters, incredibly durable properties of cyanoacrylate glue different surfaces were again seen. At this time, Coover has peered more closely to the new material and saw its potential. So, Harry realized that he had in his hands simply unique in its properties to the adhesive. The new adhesive has been patented as soon `Super Glue` and in 1958 he literally blew up the market.
It is noteworthy that the properties of the new adhesive is literally hypnotized the audience - so experiment with raising the vehicle on the street using superglue and a crane, it was a real show.
It is known that the properties of the new adhesive proved to be much wider than the actual bonding solid surface - it turned out that the aerosol based on these compounds helps to stop the bleeding. For example, during the Vietnam War, thanks to the invention Kuvera many soldiers who find themselves away from the special operating conditions, to avoid the possibility of blood loss and death.
In general, a group of Kuvera engaged in the development of superglue, received during the years of 460 patents for various inventions. But, of course, the most famous development has become all the same superglue. By the way, Harry Coover not managed well to get rich from his invention - truly the glue has become popular after the action of its patent expired.
In 2010, US President Barack Obama (Barack Obama) has awarded the inventor of the Medal of Honor for his services in oblastitehnologii and Innovation (National Medal of Technology and Innovation). It is known that the reward Coover learned in the hospital, but in order to receive the award, the scientist found the strength to come to Washington.
Actually, he was very proud of his title of `Mr. Superkley`, and, in addition to awards from the President, he was the owner of the title of` Chemist goda` (Southern Chemist Man of the Year Award), as well as the winner of the `Earle B. Barnes Award` of Maurice and` Holland Award`. In addition, Coover had a medal from the Institute of Industrial Research Institute and was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame (National Inventor`s Hall of Fame).
Harry Coover died at the age of 94, at his home in Kingsport, Tennessee (Kingsport, Tennessee); it happened March 26, 2011, the cause of death was heart failure.
