This nu-metal band from Boston was created by a guy named Sully Erna. Before that, Erna warming up the drum kit in the other local teams "Strip Mind" and "Meliagh rage", and then he spent a year break from music. His new project "Godsmack" Sally, who decided to take on the responsibilities of the composer and singer ,I named for one of the songs "Alice in chains".
The origin of the group besides him included Robbie Merrill (bass) , Tommy Stewart (drums, ex- "Lillian Axe") and Lee Richards (guitar) . However, the latter two in the team lasted only a few months and have been replaced by Joe Darko and Tony Rombolo respectively.
In 1996-m, the guys with the help of friends scraped together 2,500 dollars, and the money recorded his first record. By the way, Joe Darko did not take part in the sessions, and drummer function of habit took over Erna.
GodsmackAlbom undertook to distribute the local Boston firm "Newbury Comics". One of its copies was in the WAAF radio ,which took an active spin song "Keep Away". Just at that moment I heard this song a former drummer of "Extreme" Paul Geary
Organized for "Godsmack" "PGE" management in their company. Meanwhile, weekly odds for a thousand copies of the first album, and killing composition "Whatever" became a hit in the Boston area. In 1998, "Godsmack" after lengthy negotiations with various record labels have signed up to the "Republic Records", which re-released debut album in a remix with a new name "All Wound Up".GodsmackEtot Release waited a huge success, and the album has sold over a million copies.
