Dora was born in 1954 in Athens. She - the daughter of the former Prime Minister of Greece Konstantinos Mitsotakis. In 1968, after the establishment in Greece of "black colonels` regime she and her family was in exile in Paris. In 1974 he returned to Greece and was married to a prominent journalist and a businessman Pavlos Bakoyannis, who in 1989 died at the hands of the terrorist group `November 17`. In 2002, he became the first ever woman to be elected to the post of mayor of Athens.
She studied at the German school in Paris, studied political science at the University of Munich, then went on to study political science and public law at the University of Athens. He is fluent in English, French and German.
