A great influence on the young Donald Knuth had Andrei Ershov, later his friend.
As Knut monograph "The Art of Computer Programming" always considered the main proektomsvoey life, he retired with the intention to concentrate on writing the missing pieces and bringing order existing in 1990.
Professor Knut was awarded numerous prizes and awards in the field of programming and computational mathematics, including the Turing Award (1974), the US National Science Medal (1979) and the AMS Steele Prize for a series of popular science articles, the Harvey Prize (1995), Kyoto Prize ( 1996) for achievements in the field of advanced technology, named Grace Murray Hopper award (1971).
In October 2011 Donald Knuth takes the 29th place in the list of the most cited authors in the field of computer science according to CiteSeer project.
