This dzhanglovy project from North Carolina was founded in the spring of 1984. Connelly was headed by brothers band - Mike (guitar) and David (bass) , who called her his name, "The Connells".
The original lineup also included vocalist Doug McMillan and drummer John Schultz. The latter, however ,long remained in the team and was soon replaced by former Johnny Quest percussionist Peel Wimberley. By the end of 1984, the quartet recorded their first demo of four tracks. One of these songs, "Darker Days" got on the compilation "More Mondo", released by local label.
After some time, the team joined another musician ,George Huntley (guitar, keyboards, vocals) , whose debut took place at the March 1985 session. Then the guys with producer Don Dixon just recorded their second demo. With the help of a friend "Connells" Ed Morgan, the film managed to push through to the English label "Demon".
The company has agreed to release a full-length album "Connells",if guys dopishut tribute to the number of tracks. Thus, "Darker Days" appeared in European stores uzhevo the second half of 1985. Upon returning to the United States, Morgan founded his label "Black Park" and published it on the album in America. The album was favorably received by the music press ,and compositions from it sounded on the radio stations on the youth. On the song "Seven" and "Hats Off" were filmed videos, got on MTV. This group became interested TVT label, the musicians offered a long-term contract.
The company has identified "Connells" producer Mitch Esther and sent them to the studio "Drive-In".Album "Boylan Heights" was more confident and thanks to smart, soulful compositions with neo - folk harmonies and hypnotic guitars brought a group to the level of "R.E.M.". The most popular bagatelle from this CD was the published single "Scotty`s Lament".
The next album, "Fun and Games", hit the charts in many magazines ,devoted to " alternative" and trimesyatsa spent in the charts "Billboard". In 1990 "Connells" recorded another excellent work, "One Simple Word", is accompanied by the hit single "Stone Cold Yesterday". The next three, the band spent on tour, and in 1991 appeared in its composition keyboardist Steve Indulging. In 1993-m "Connells" returned to the studio, putting on the market "Ring". Two songs, "Slackjawed" and " 74-75 " immediately became popular in America. Europe has responded to this event two years later, when the " 74-75 " topped the charts in many countries. Then again came the three-year pause, complicated this time by internal turmoil. However, the guys have overcome their differences and published a "Weird Food and Devastation", released almost simultaneously with the first solo album Huntley. However, the record was not very successful and "Connols" failed completely rehabilitated only with the advent of "Still life".
