Born into a peasant family, Boganda, nbaka ethnicity, became the first African-Catholic priest in the French colony of Ubangi-Shari. It was the support of the Catholic Church has played in many respects a decisive role in the victory Boganda elections in the French National Assembly in November 1946, however, he soon condemned the policy of the colonial government in general and the Catholic Church in particular, and took off his priesthood.
