Alexander Van der Bellen born January 18, 1944 in Vienna (Vienna) and spent his childhood in Tirol (Tyrol). In 1917, Van der Bellen family left Russia (Russia) and settled in Estonia (Estonia), but after the accession of Estonia by the Soviet Union (Soviet Union) in 1940-1941, the father of Alexander and his future wife, fled to Austria (Austria). For some time they have spent in a German refugee camp, then settled in Vienna. Then, when the Soviet troops approached Vienna, the family once again fled and hid in the Tyrol.
In 1962 he graduated from the Academic Gymnasium (Akademisches Gymnasium) in Innsbruck (Innsbruck). Then he studied economics at the University of Innsbruck (University of Innsbruck), and in 1970 defended his doctoral dissertation.
From 1968 to 1970, Alexander Van der Bellen worked as an assistant at the Institute of Finance (Institut fur Finanzwissenschaft) at the University of Innsbruck, and from 1972 to 1974 - at the International Institute of Management and Control (Internationales Institut fur Management und Verwaltung) in Berlin (Berlin).
In 1976, Van der Bellen was appointed professor at the University of Innsbruck. Later, he moved to Vienna, where from 1977 to 1980 he taught as a professor of economics at the University of Vienna (University of Vienna), and then headed a department of economy. From 1990 to 1994 he held the chair dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics.
A former member of the Austrian Social Democratic Party (Austrian Social Democratic Party), Van der Bellen became a member of the National Council of Austria (National Council of Austria) of the Austrian Green Party in 1994. Starting from 1997, he was their federal representative, and in 1999 chaired the parliamentary club of green in the National Council. He resigned after the September 2008 elections, when the green lost the vote for the first time in a decade.
It is curious that in all political Van der Bellen ratings always scored a lot more points than a political party, which he represented; Austrians approve of his restraint and sensible behavior even during heated debate, his honesty and, of course, to his extensive knowledge oblastiekonomiki.
Van der Bellen is married and has two adult sons. He is a passionate fan of comics Scrooge McDuck (Scrooge McDuck) and heavy smoker, has made no secret of the addiction to tobacco. In May 2004, Van der Bellen has been awarded the Medal of Merit of the `Republic of Austria` (Gro?es Goldenes Ehrenzeichen mit dem Stern fur Verdienste um die Republik Osterreich) with a gold star.
Research interests of Professor Van der Bella lie in the planning and financing of the public sector procedures, infrastructure financing, taxation, government spending, the regulatory policy of the government, state-owned enterprises, as well as environmental and transport policy.
