Alexander Berastau born September 13, 1957 in Donetsk. In 1973 he graduated from high school in the town of Zhukovsky and entered the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), post-graduate course which he graduated in 1982 with a diploma of the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences on a specialty "oceanography".
In 1982, Alexander Berastau started working at the Institute of Oceanology named after P. P.Shirshova the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1992 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences on the topic "Principles of selection of models and observational data for analysis and forecasting of ocean currents." Since 1990, he began teaching at the Department of MIPT termogidromehaniki ocean. Alexander Berastau participated in the 8 flights of research vessels in various parts of the oceans. He is the author of over 100 scientific papers and patents dealing with fluid dynamics theory of ocean currents and digital image processing.
Playing guitar and writing poetry Alexander Berastau began in high school, but his first song "Islands" was written only in 1985 in the expedition after a visit to the Cape Verde Islands. In the late 80`s and early 90`s Berastau often gave concerts on ships to the sailors. His songs were distributed first to the tape recordings and later on CD-ROM, but have never been professionally published.
In 1984, for his work "Lone Rossby waves" was awarded the medal of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
