Investigators considered ordering the murder of Klebnikov Khozh-Akhmed Nukhayev - Chechens, who in the early 1990s, was convicted for robbery, was later released by the then leader of the unrecognized Republic of Ichkeria Dzhokhar Dudayev became his deputy for security, and - the head of Ichkeria intelligence. Dukuzov and Vakhayev called an immediate consequence of the performers.

Dukuzov was detained in Minsk on November 17, 2004 and soon extradited to Russia. Two days later Vakhaev was detained in Moscow. Both, in addition to charges of murdering Klebnikov, was charged with attempted Pichugin. Sadretdinov was arrested in July 2005.

December 19 the media reported that Sadretdinov tried to hang himself in a cell, and then was sent to the psychiatric ward of the prison hospital. By the end of January 2007 the date of the hearing on the case of the assassination of Pichugin was not called. Date new hearing on the murder of Klebnikov also has not yet been determined.
